The other day I wrote a newspaper article for my school newspaper about what people knew about computers. The teachers feel like within the next couple of years, everything will be run by computers, so it was my job to find out what some knew about that.
I started out asking what an on-line auction was and if anyone ever used it. It surprised me about the answers I got. I remember one answer quite well. My dad got on the computer the other night and hit this on-line auction site and was wondering if he could sell his old car that didn’t run anymore on there. He was looking through some of the ads and there were cars dated way back to 1920. Of course, they were very expensive, but still were on this on-line auction site.
Someone else mentioned about a chat room. I was wondering if a chat room was like instant messenger. I soon found out a chat room is what it says it is. A chat room meaning where a group of people gather together in one room and start chatting about every day things. If I am correct, I think my brother goes into a chat room every night when he is done with his homework.
I do know that someday I will have ideas of my own of what a web site design is. I think a picture of a home with a lot of trees and branches on the tree, and snow on the ground would be a nice design. Does anyone know what a web site design is? Guess I will come back to that question.
Now the next question is does anyone know what www stands for? I got all kinds of answers for that question, and some I have never heard of. Well it means world wide web, which is what you type in at the top of where it says address. If you know any sites, they always start off with www. Sometimes you will have to type in http://www. But that happens very rare. Some computers you don’t even have to type in www. I remember when I was first learning about computers and someone was talking about having to type in world wide web in the address bar. That is what I did. I typed in world wide web. Amazon.com, and nothing happened at all. Later on I found out I had to just type www.amazon.com and then it worked for me.
That is the end of my school article for this week, so it will be interesting to see what they will have me doing next week.
